About two weeks ago...

“Well, well. Looks who’s decided to grace us with her presence,” Sang-woon, one of the managers, mused with a mouth full of fried rice.

“Hm?” Yoona hummed, absently picking at her lunch.

He paused to take another bite. “Jung.”

Yoona’s head shot up, scanning the office. Sure enough, Jessica, clad in sunglasses and the most conspicuously-colored top imaginable, made a slow gait to her desk and practically fell into her seat. She ignored the stack of untouched documents on her desk to rummage through a file cabinet. Retrieving a bottle of aspirin, she palmed two into her mouth and laid her head back.

Is she nursing a hangover? Oh, Jessica.

Maybe I should..

No. I’m sick of being the nagging caretaker.

She shook her head, nibbling on some garnish. Besides, everything’s moving too fast. Telling her to leave yesterday was the right thing to do. As if I need another failed relationship thrown into the mix.

“Napping already. Boss is gonna love that.”

For the days of Jessica’s absence, Sang-woon took the opportunity to rush in and become her new “office mate.” His middle-aged post-divorce life was uninteresting and he spoke with his mouth full, but she appreciated the effort.

“Maybe she’s had a restless week.”

“We’ll see how much rest she gets on the fifteenth floor.”

Yoona spun in her seat, eyebrows furrowed. “What?”

Sang-woon smiled, enjoying the attention. “The Shin-ster hates no-shows. He would have immediately fired her if she wasn’t so loyal to the company. Gave her benefit of the doubt and everything. When he sees that she’s been out galavanting...” He whistled. “Not looking good for Jessica.”

“How’d you hear about the fifteenth floor?”

“Shin told his loose-lipped secretary who dishes everything. Latest media supervisor down there got pregnant, so she needs a replacement. Since our Jung no longer values her job, a change of scenery may be in order.”

Fifteenth floor?! That’s worse than firing her. “When’s he going to tell her?”

“Soon. He’s finishing up a lunch meeting with a client. Someone’s bound to alert him.”

Would that someone be you, Sang-woon?

Yoona sprang from her chair, sending it rolling into the wall. “I’ll be back.”

The manager placed his carton on her desk. “I’ll join you.”

“No time.”

Before he could get another word out, she bolted.

“Hurry up, damnit.” She tapped her high heel onto the elevator floor.

Why am I doing this? Jessica’s the irresponsible one for ditching work without warning. It takes five seconds to send an email.

I can’t let her be demoted...

Yoona could have punched the unsuspecting new interns filing into the enclosed space.

A tall, plain one pressed the ‘door close’ button several unnecessary times. “Going down?”

She reminds me of that bitch Seohyun. “No--up. Read the damn symbols before you get on the elevator next time.”

The young workers shut up for the rest of the snail’s paced ride. Except for one young lady, dressed in a skirt two sizes too small. “I wonder if that’s Jessica Jung,” she whispered to a pudgy guy in a vest three sizes too big.

Yoona made no mistake to elbow through them, clacking quickly over to--ah, fuck--Shin reaching Jessica’s desk. Discounting hesitation--and not to mention manners, she slammed a glass vase of flowers onto Jessica’s desk to block their impending conversation.

The blonde removed her shades and the boss eyed her like she’d lost her mind.

“I’m so, so sorry about your loss,” Yoona rattled off breathlessly, sliding the white Chrysanthemums closer to the stunned woman. “I know you’re still mourning, so I bought these.”

She’d never went on such a rampage of rudeness. Bursting into the flower shop around the corner. Hurrying past the line with all the entitlement in the world. Slapping her credit card on the counter, demanding sympathy flowers pronto. Wrenching the only convincing arrangement from a teenager’s clutches. God, this better work.

“You had an emergency, Miss Jung?” Shin inquired, face less stern. He's always had a soft spot for younger employees.

Jessica frowned, working her haggard state to her advantage. “Yes, sir. A big one.”

Yoona stifled a nervous giggle. “Mmhm. Her best friend died.”

“Of alcohol poisoning,” Jessica added seamlessly.

How specific.

She continued. “I had to rush out of town. Where...where my phone wouldn’t work.”

Reel it in, Jung.

Shin shook his head, crestfallen. “You kids need to watch your drinking habits. Know your limit.”

“Yes, sir,” they answered in unison.

“Jung, meet me in my office in an hour. I’ll bring you up to speed with our latest projects. My condolences. Next time...a simple email would suffice.”

"Thank you. I won't forget."

They breathed sighs of relief once he rounded the corner.

“I don’t know how to repay you,” Jessica's lips curled into an unsure smile. “You’re like my guardian angel.”

You have eye bags and a lash stuck to your face. She pinned her arms to her sides, discouraging the urge to brush the offender from her cheek. To think that 24 hours ago, we were nuzzling in her bed..

Her aching shoulder reminded her that their activities didn't stop at nuzzling.

“Let me make it up to you, Yoongie.”

Yoona closed her eyes, mentally shunning every flutter in her chest. Blocking out the gorgeous, pitiful individual before her. Those eyes. I don’t know those eyes. And that fucking scares me. The only eyes I know are Yuri’s. The eyes of a four-year commitment. Years of companionship and trust until that short-lived engagement. I’m not ready.

“I-I’d prefer if you’d call me Yoona, Miss Jung. From now on, we should keep our relationship strictly professional.”

And that she did. No more flirting. No more intimate lunches (this pleased Sang-woon). No more anything other than the generic co-worker pleasantries. How else will I stay sane until I figure out what I want? What I need..

A long, startling lick jolted Yoona to the present, where they just dropped Sooyoung off at the bar parking lot from Gabriel's sedan.

“Herc! Contain yourself!” From the driver's seat, his long swarthy arm pushed the kissy animal out of the way.

“Whew! Thanks, Gabe. He was suffocating me.” Yuri laughed, swiping her shirt free of white hairs.

Yoona shuddered, cleaning the slobber off with the back of her wrist.

“That was some get-together, huh?” Yuri sighed, carefully threading their fingers together.

A nod. “Very informative. I’m sure it satiated Sooyoung’s meddling quota for the week.”

“Ultimately nosy, that one.”

“Her special methods of making others open up.”

“Sooyoung’s a helper at heart,” Gabriel chimed in, snapping on a turn signal. “I’m dropping you two off at your house, right?”

My house. Or our house?

Yuri guided a thumb over the back of her hand. “Thanks, man. You’re the best.”

Yoona examined the thumb’s circular pattern. A pang of guilt reminded her that she was keeping this from Sooyoung. Whatever this is.

It sort of just happened. Regular visits by her ex swinging by to find her (insert supposedly lost item here) everyday since she moved in with Hyoyeon. Started with stilted hellos. Soon after, a few laughs. Eventually, dinners together. The companionship was nice. Made her wonder if things could go back to normal.

She rubbed her pink forehead. The particular spot that collided with a certain Seo Juhyun. Then there are times when I remember that priss-zilla sitting at my table eating my food and flirting with my girlfriend. Internal raging at the innocent button-mashing intern proved the unlikeliness of getting over that hump in the relationship.

So what to do? Salvage what’s broken? Or possibly become a perpetually bitter old maid who channels her love via non-human interactions. Maybe I'll adopt a cat.

Another option opened itself the moment she sat at that snake-occupied desk in Sunny’s apartment. Yoona sensed kitty eyes grazing her the majority of the stay.

Kitty eyes. Ugh, now I can’t get a cat.

All feline-related jokes aside, she unwittingly managed to undo a well-executed two weeks of “polite co-worker cold shoulder.” The only way she saw fit to give her the space to think. To stall in line for the emotional roller coaster Jessica Jung could bring.

I couldn’t help it. She looked so helpless in that oversized chair with her sun-fried legs.

And then there’s Yuri.

“I watched the weirdest program last night,” Yuri mumbled, sucking a piece of squid from her chopsticks. “People ate all this crap that wasn’t food. Like cigarette ashes and glass. Freaky shit.”

“They’re not dead?”

“No! Isn’t that crazy? Not saying that I wanna eat glass, but like, that’s incredible.”

A lunch date very similar to their frequent dinners together. Yuri’s fantastic cooking and the kitchen table conversation gave the illusion of the old days. Happy, unscathed old days.

“I wouldn’t call it incredible.”

“He had a technique of chewing so it wouldn't cut through his throat. Pretty cool.”

“Do I need to replace all the glassware?” Yoona smirked, squinting an eye.

Yuri squeezed her forearm. “I’d eat off anything if it means spending time with you.”

Oh, that precious side-smile. She looked down at her plate, suddenly no longer hungry.

“I meant what I said at Sunny’s,” she went on, “I do still love you, babe.”

Yoona’s throat felt dry. She finished her wine. “I know. I love you, too.”

After dessert, Yoona rose to clear the dishes. Yuri--similar to their old rituals-- took out another beer, watching her perform the rest of the domestic tasks. It didn't take her long to notice that Yoona continued to replenish her favorite brew in the refrigerator.

“Think you'll do a nightly work run again?”

A regular occurrence for the last couple weeks. In an awful habit, she’d wake up around 3am, left to lie alone with conflicting thoughts about love and the future clouding her mind. Hence, she threw on some clothes and did extra work at the office for an hour or so. The late-night ritual gave her incentive to return home with a head full of statistics rather than...everything else. “Probably. If I can’t sleep.”

“I could stay over a night or so. If you want.”

Yoona tested the hot running water with the back of her hand. Tempting. Sound sleep wrapped in someone's arms. I hate being alone.

The chirp from a phone saved her from any immediate answers. Yuri tapped her screen, scanned the message, and skillfully typed back. As much as she told her ex about workplace ordeals, she noticed that Yuri never mentioned the job as Hyoyeon’s assistant.

Snoopy as ever, Sooyoung filled her in. As assumed, flirting served as a primary part of the job. Pretty ladies plus flirting equaled more contacts. Apparently--according to Hyoyeon--Yuri was a natural. Very suave.

Yoona scoffed at the thought of Yuri being anything close to suave. Yet, she couldn’t help but note Yuri’s posture change. Demeanor a bit more reserved. More swagger in her step. She wondered if the frequent texts were from Hyoyeon or other women.

“Alright, hot stuff. I’m out.”

She also talks more like Hyoyeon.

“See you at dinner tomorrow.”

Yoona’d be lying if she said that she didn’t anticipate what always came next. A hand slid behind her neck as Yuri pulled her into a goodbye kiss. Her favorite part of the visits. Intimate contact. A few deliciously slow pecks. Afterwards, they'd pull away and share a shy smile.

Yuri's kisses had always been sensual and unhurried. The soft, pillowy caresses had Yoona cracking her eyes open to view that passionate face up close.

For a second. A millisecond, even. She didn’t see Yuri.

Yoona saw the fishy, squished face of that homewrecking Seohyun held by Hyoyeon’s bony fingers. Yuri did things that woman. Possibly took part in the same cozy kisses. Rather than part with a smile, Yoona returned her attention to submerged soapy hands.

“Shit, what happened?”

“It’s nothing. I don’t want you to be late.”

“Brought you ice coffee.”

As expected, Jessica showed up in a very chipper mood come Monday morning.

An early morning text tipped her off. +What’s the cutest thing you’ve ever seen me wear?

She didn't reply, pretending that she hadn't spent ten minutes speculating.

Yoona used every bit of her college introductory acting lessons to look completely natural and ignore the bouncy individual clicking to her desk, humming along the way. The familiar scent of pricey perfume invaded her senses before the blonde took a seat on the edge of her desk, legs swinging. Like nothing's changed. What have I done?

“Cream and no sugar,” she purred, words hinting at some secret message.

“For me? Thank you.” Yoona could have cried at the perfection of the drink’s prep. Sang-woon adds every kind of syrup, claiming that his ex-wife loved it that way. It’d become an everyday quest to dispose of the sludge without him noticing.

“Mm.” She kept typing with one hand, struggling to ignore the blatant staring. Her fingers stilled. This isn’t going to work.

“New silk scarf?” Jessica mused, fingers grasping at it without permission.

Yoona allowed her to pull her forward only an inch. “Yes. Mom got it for me.”

“Your mother has good taste.”

“I’ll be sure to tell her.”

And--déjà vu--there she is side-eying the Yuri frame in its usual spot on my desk. Dreading an incoming question regarding the picture’s presence, she asked, “How are your knees?”

Her legs’ swinging paused for her to hover them straight in the air. “Itchy. Gives me good excuse to shop for leggings.”

Indeed, the sheer material masked the redness well. She nodded in approval. God, Sooyoung’s game seriously gave her a burst of confidence. It’s increasingly difficult to treat her like anybody else. Either way, it’s good to see her smile. She's so kissable.

I’m doomed.

Yoona’s reanimated hands went back to tapping at the keyboard. About what? She had no idea. Look busy, Im Yoona. Very busy.

Yoona,” Jessica’s voice lowered. “Leggings aren’t the only items I bought.”

“Oh yeah?” She felt Sang-woon’s grim gaze while he slowly walked by, holding two Starbucks coffee cups. Yoona hurriedly brought the straw to her mouth and directed her eyes up to Jessica. Keep going, man.

Jessica's cheeks colored at the sudden eye contact. Then, a naughty smile crawled across her lips. “Yeah. I ordered lingerie as well. Couldn't decide between the ice pink lace garter slip and the navy halter babydoll, so I bought both. The first is practically invisible but the second has easier access. You're gonna love it.”

Like clockwork, cold liquid shot through the wrong channel, putting Yoona into an snorty-coughy stupor. “I don’t uh...I don’t think that’d be appropriate.”

Didn’t I rehearse what to say to her all weekend? Unfortunately, with a forgotten script and a fully-functioning imagination, she resigned to checking her nose for blood while Jessica giggled.

“Yoona, why are you so cute?”

More coughing. “Cute? My inability to hold in coffee?”

“I find your rosy nose and ease-of-flustering endearing.”

While she composed herself, Jessica glanced at Yuri again. Her voice softened to a whisper. “Do you ever think about our first night together?”

Yoona’s eyes darted around the floor. Colleagues were still dragging in, finding reasons to delay morning duties. Nobody paid attention to their corner of the office space. “Why?”

“I found it impossible to fall asleep with you in my arms. What if I’d woken up and you were gone?”

“I slept soundly.”

“Do you...” She licked her lips. “ever think about the next morning?”

Constantly. It fuels my dreams. “No.”

“You’re lying.”

“I’m not.”

“You are. I know you.”

“No, you don’t.”

“Yes, I do.”

“You can’t, Jessica.”

“Why not?”

“Because you’re not my girlfriend.”

Jessica froze as if she’d been shot.

If she failed to recover her mental script, bluntness would have to do. “Yuri and I...we’ve been talking lately. I still love her.”

They sat silently for a full minute. Yoona’s skin burned at how Jessica searched her face, eyes welling up. Please don’t hate me. I’ve been unsure about everything since the night Yuri proposed. I can’t deal with more uncertainty.

“You ladies gonna work or chit chat all day?” Sang-woon drawled, sidling up to the tension with a clueless grin.

“Fuck you, Sang-woon.” Jessica spat as she hopped off the desk.

His eyes stretched, watching her storm off. “What’d I do!?”

Yoona shook her mouse to reveal more damn pie charts hiding behind the screensaver. “Nothing. It’s all me.”

Yoona woke up in a daze. She peered around the surrounding darkness, temporarily forgetting her location. Her elbow hit the keyboard and the bright white flash of the computer screen nearly blinded her drowsy eyes.

Oh right. Fell asleep at work.

Rubbing a single eye, she squinted at the time. 12:38am. Yikes. Time flies.

Yoona wrenched the silk scarf from her neck to pat perspiration on her forehead. She’d been working nonstop until 10 o’clock, preferring to save herself from bumping into anyone for the rest of the day. And night, apparently. Her heavy head and growling stomach served reminder of a skipped lunch and dinner. I could use Yuri’s cooking right about now.

Remembering her dinner partner, she snatched the phone from the desk to check her messages. Two missed from Yuri.

+Hey babe. Should I try making something Western tonight?

+Working late? I’ll save you some.

Food. Need food. She blindly groped a side drawer of her desk, fetching a granola bar. Sure, she required real nourishment, but there was no way she'd sit behind the wheel groggy and starving. The bar tasted of dark chocolate, dried fruit, and sandpaper. Most delicious, life-saving sandpaper ever.

She greedily chomped down half the bar, devouring some of the wrapper in the process. The squeak of a door interrupted her snack.

A pause.

The door closed.

Nobody else ever shows up at work this late. Yoona finished chewing and carefully settled the rest back into the drawer, as if the stranger would hear every crackle. She unlocked her phone, prepared to dial the authorities.

A shadowy figure appeared, poking and prodding at objects on various desks as it made its round. Yoona held her breath and turned off the screen monitor. Oh my god. A burglar? Why the hell do we pay those security guards? Jittery thumbs hovered over the call button when she noticed the figure halt abruptly at Jessica’s desk. The person picked up her name slate and held it close to their face, presumably reading.

Hmmm. Weird.

Then, in a strange turn of events, they stuck a hand into Jessica's dish of excess condolence candy and started munching away. One hand scooping treats into their mouth, the other holding onto two boxy items.

The stranger looked less threatening than anticipated. They pawed around the rest of the desk and grabbed an apple. It went straight to their mouth with a juicy crunch.

Wait. This isn’t a thief. At least, not a dangerous one...

The alarmed woman spun around at her name as Yoona flicked her monitor back on. “SHIT. You scared me!”

You!?” Yoona scoffed, “You’re the one lurking around my job!”

“Not lurking. On a mission.”

“A mission?” Her heart was still racing, but knowing that she’d live another day made her game for whatever silliness came from Taeyeon’s mouth. “Does it involve eating everything off Jessica’s desk?”

She lowered one of the boxes next to the blonde’s computer, leaving the bitten apple on her desk. “Not exactly. I’m just starving. Tiffany’s idea. She went out and bought gifts.”

“This couldn’t wait until--I don’t know--daylight?”

“That’s what I told her. She's really eager about surprising you two.”

You two? “What?”

“Ta-daaa!” Taeyeon stuck the other box into her face. “Brand new heels for you!”

By reflex, she took the shoebox. “W-what?!”

“I woulda wrapped it, but fuck that noise. It's a going away present.” In the light of the computer, Yoona could see Taeyeon’s face fall. “She got fancy schmancy high heels for you and Jessica. Jackets for Sunny and Hyo. Dorky matching sweaters for Gabe and Sooyoung...I guess that’s a straight thing...”

She bought our presents like we’re a couple... “I can’t accept this.”

A shrug. “Too bad. It’s yours.”

“How does she even know my size?”

“Did you let her in your house?”

“My girlfriend’s creepy. She finds these things out.”

A pause. Yoona’s fingertips lingered along the box top. Tiffany seems fashionable enough. I’m afraid that if I open these, I’ll love them.

“Oop.” Taeyeon wrestled with her jean pockets, patting for more. “And here’s an invite to the gallery show. It’s all this week. You should drop by.”

Yoona sighed, reading the ticket. “I’m not really into this sorta thing. It’s more Yuri’s speed.”

“Do you want her ticket, too? I have a few here and it’ll save us a trip.” She slapped the other onto her desk. “By the way, can you act super surprised when you see Tiffany again? I want her to think this is a success.”

Why fight it? “Sure.”

“Grrrreat.” Taeyeon’s inquisitive eyes danced around as silence swept over the room. “Why’re you at work so late?”

Yoona rubbed at her neck, settling into her seat. There’s something warm and sincere about this Taeyeon chick. Maybe it’s how she’s dressed like a teenaged skater. Or her laid-back vibe. A trustworthy demeanor. “I don’t like to be alone at home.”

“But you’re alone here.”

A smile. “True. However, I can distract myself in this setting. At home, I’m surrounded by memories.”

“Good memories?”

Yoona used a moment to ponder the question. “Um, yes.”

“Thought so. Those are the intimidating ones.”

“I don’t know what to do, Taeyeon. I tried pushing all the stress away so I could think. Turns out, my brain's even more scrambled.”

The shorter woman tilted her head, eerily resembling a pouting cocker spaniel. “Someone needs a hug.”

She didn't get a chance to decline. Taeyeon bounded around the desk and rolled her forward into a tight squeeze. “Ladies say I give bitchin’ hugs.”

Yoona smiled and relaxed her muscles. “They’d be right.”

She stepped backward and leaned against her desk, not unlike a certain someone.

“Taeyeon, why’d you break up with Yuri?”

Yoona thought back at how worried Yuri spoke when she first mentioned her high school ex. As if she’d scream at the woman for not being her first love.

The woman fidgeted, tossing her head to the left as if that would jog the recollection from its hiding.

“Hormones.” She snorted to herself. “Yuri was fun, but she got too intense too fast. After I um...felt her up a few times, she started using the 'L word.' Freaked me out.”

“Yuri does throw her feelings out full force.”

“Mostly my fault, though. Once I kissed one girl, I wanted to kiss more. My locker soon filled with various love letters in cute girly handwriting and I liked it. A lot. Yuri helped me discover my raging inner gay. Well, that and a clumsy first time with Sunny.”

Interesting. “And Jessica?”

“Jessica...” Taeyeon drummed purple fingernails onto the edge of the desk. “Jessica’s mine, but not to keep.”

Yoona didn’t understand. She accepted the answer anyway.

“Now, come on. Tiffany probably thinks I got caught. I’ll walk you to your car.”

She closed out her program and grabbed her purse. “Thanks, Taeyeon. I see why Jessica keeps you close.”

“Thank me by spazzing the fuck out about those damn shoes when you see Tiffany.”

Yoona pushed her front door open with a swift jingle. Taeyeon's chat lifted her mood, yet the squealing match with Tiffany that followed sapped what little energy she possessed. I’m too tired to even eat. I’ll just pass out and grab a big breakfast in the morning.

Per habit, she flipped the switch to the living room--which resulted in no light. “Goddamn it.”

She slammed the door behind her, throwing her purse and amazing new heels at the dark mass of a couch. She moved on to the hall, groping at its switch as well. No light there, either. Did a storm tear through town while I was asleep? No matter. I don’t need electricity to find my bed.

Maybe Jessica won't haunt my dreams this time.

Yoona unbuttoned her blouse, peeling it off her shoulders. The scarf went flying into the darkness. Her hands made way to unzip her skirt when two arms wrapped around her waist. Instead of screaming, she sort of died for three seconds until she recognized the tightness of the back hug.

“Fuckin’ hell, Yuri!?” As if I needed another shadowy figure stalking in the night.

“Sorry, babe. I meant to surprise you.”

Surprises and the dark don’t mix. This should be a law. “I’m surprised.”

“Shhhh.” She felt the zip lower. The skirt puddled to the floor. “Do you remember our first night in this house?”

A small smile. “You forgot to pay the bill.”

“I did.” Yuri laughed. “One of the best nights, to be honest.”

“I agree.”

Wet kisses pressed against her exposed neck. “You were willing to christen the floor even when we couldn’t see two feet past our faces. So adventurous.”

Her eyes closed automatically. “I’m not adventurous anymore.”

“Sure you are.”

“No. I’m not.”

She spun around. Yuri’s breath slowly hit her face. “That’s okay, too. You’re dependable. And sweet. And beautiful. Perfect.”

“Shouldn’t I take more chances?” Yoona draped her arms onto her neck, leisurely stroking soft strands.

“No. You’re grounded. I love that.”

“Do you love me?”

“You know I do.”

The body firmly pushed her towards the bed. If Yuri had been assertive in anything, it was this. Yoona went rigid, not allowing herself to be pushed over. “I don’t know anything.”

“I love you, Yoona.”

“How much?”

Yuri steered her by the hips. She leaned in. “Let me show you.”

“No. Tell me. In words.”

“I...I’m not good with words.”

“It’s...it’s like I’m missing something. You’re my rock, babe. My...my anchor. I’m floating aimlessly without you.”

Yoona smirked, sliding the shirt from Yuri's supple frame. “Since when have you been so poetic?”

“Losing you gave me a lot of time to think. About this.”

They tumbled to the bed, rolling left to right, sporadic kisses shared between heavy breathing. Yoona pinned her to the bottom with firm hands, grinning to herself.

This is new.” Yuri murmured, her voice reluctant.

“I could say the same about how you held my hips.”

A long pause.

“Your...” She chuckled. “your hair is tickling me.”

This...is familiar.

Yoona realized that in the pitch black room, at that moment, it could have been anybody beneath her. Anybody.

The mental image of a fair-haired, slyly smiling woman who smelled of French perfume played so vividly behind her eyes that she could see it projected in the darkness. She jumped when a hand tucked the hair behind her ear rather than swat at it like a kitten.

“You there, babe?”

What the hell is wrong with me? I worked my ass off for this relationship. I worked really, really hard and invested so much time and money.

I have to love Yuri.

Why else would I pay for her schooling, buy a house, plan the dinner parties, headbutt someone, and buy her favorite beer if I didn’t love her?

Love is years of being connected by an established common bond.

Not office flirting. Or sultry glances.

Not ensemble compliments. Not bitchiness. Not legs swinging from my desk.

Not taupe dresses, lavender and rose lotion, or the retainer case on a nightstand.

Not vanity and arm-dislocating sex.

Not snatching flowers from mourning teenagers, ice coffee, and croissants.

None of that is love. Right?

Is love hovering over a sure deal, willing my mind to forget how another woman has me sleep deprived and utterly crazy?

That's it.

I'm crazy about Jessica.

“Babe, what’s wrong?” Yuri sat up after Yoona, reaching to shake the anxiety from her quaking shoulders. “Let it go. It’s gonna be fine. I’m sorry, okay? Everything will be back to normal--the way it was before I messed up. I promise.”

She shrugged the hands away. “I can’t go back to that.”

“You know why.”

Yuri audibly gulped, unmoving in her position. Yoona’s hands dropped to her lap so her next words were clear enough for no further questions.

“I think I’m in love with her.”

Next Chapter:  Tiffany!

Ah, love. So beautiful. So stressful.

YESSSSSSSS!!!!!!!! Finally!!!

Polka dotting so I can leave a sane comment later!!

It is now 'later' and the overdue sane comment:

You pulled the carpet from right under me turns out Yoona needed space to think away from Jessica. I can't hide the massive grin I have from reading Saviour Yoona coming to Princess Jung's rescue; twas very cute.

"I hate being alone" - this is what I think will tie Yoona and Jessica together. They're on the same page in terms of what they want in a relationship. They're both independent and despite how Jessica expresses herself; they're both fragile but are caring/giving types. They wouldn't be toxic at the very least. Grounds for a healthy relationship.

Couple that with how Yuri's changing into something Yoona doesn't want (Hyo-ness) and what with her "frequent texts from other women", and you've a very happy bluecod because YoonYul has been well and truly bazooka'd out of the universe x).

Flirty Jess is so fun to read about, does she come to you as easily as Sassy Jessica?

On a side note: you know, I looked up "Lace Garter Slip" and just about short circuited when I imagined Jessica in one, and promptly bought a set for my gf. Just thought I'd give my thanks for putting the idea in my head ;)

And then this:
“You can’t, Jessica.”

“Why not?”

“Because you’re not my girlfriend.”

Jessica froze as if she’d been shot.

If she failed to recover her mental script, bluntness would have to do. “Yuri and I...we’ve been talking lately. I still love her.”

They sat silently for a full minute. Yoona’s skin burned at how Jessica searched her face, eyes welling up.

I felt a physical chest pang at this. For lack of better wording, it was done with incredible finesse. There was just enough detail to convey how tense both of them were. And the hurt. Jessica takes another blow, and for all her confidence; she still can't get what she wants. Another exhibit of Jessica trying hard to make things happen in her love life. You're making her work for it, aren't you?

So I was right! Tiffany is leaving. I'm anticipating reading about what goes on in her headspace. We haven't read about it for a while.

And another bomb: "Jessica’s mine, but not to keep"
This is an interesting way to sum up the TaeSica relationship; they're not really in the "more than friends, less than lovers" category, but it's as if they have a mutual understanding that theirs is a Platonic love weird comfort, like eating oranges and bananas (together). I don't know what I was thinking typing this. There's something there, but they both know it's not enough? If I look at it without any romantic ideas, then it's like TaeSica are 'familial' but not really. Apologies for that verbal vomit. It's almost 3am right now, and I don't think that TaeSica thought is completing itself properly in my mind.

In behavioural finance, there's this thing called "loss aversion" and it happens when someone doesn't want to cut their losses because they've invested so much already, and don't want to realise that loss. I suppose that's why Yoona wanted to go back to Yuri - makes sense that she wouldn't want her efforts to go to waste.

Oh, Yoona. If only you knew you were crazy for Jessica sooner. I was celebrating YoonSic earlier, but my inner masochist thinks otherwise; it's too good to be true.

That sane comment was VERY sane. *cracks knuckles* LET'S DO THIS.

I just pictured myself running up to my mental image of you and yanking the carpet from under your computer chair. Thanks for the lulz. YAAAAAAYYY massive grins. Yoona valiantly diva'ing it up at the floral shop made me wish that she did more cray/rude things before. Of course, we don't need two Jessicas running wild.

Yoona and Sica are two lonely hearts that just need loveee~~ You analysis on both of them is pretty much what I had in mind. They're needy, but not pathetic. Focused on the outside and super squishy with feels on the inside.

I think you're one of the few people that pointed out the "hyo-ness." Yoona is NOT a fan of Hyoyeon LOL. While I think it's good for Yuri, that's not very appealing to someone repelled by Hyo's very being.

"Flirty Jess is so fun to read about, does she come to you as easily as Sassy Jessica?"---Hmmmmm....yes. WGTG Jessica is apparently my spirit animal. XD

HAHAHAH did you really buy one for your gf!!!? NICEEEE. Enjoy that. ;)
((FUN FACT: I went on the Victoria's Secret site to pick out the lingerie sets for Jessica. True devotion. And easy on the eyes.)) Great, now I'm picturing Jessica wearing them. DON'T EXPLODE, BRAIN. I HAVE TO FINISH THIS REPLY.

Finesse?! >.< Thank youuu. Awww did that hurt? That's good, right? haha. YES. JESSICA HAS TO WORK HARD FOR THIS. Will she get it in the end?

Tiffany's been out there being responsible and buying expensive stuff for friends. It'll be refreshing to see how she's doing. :3

"Weird comfort" is a perfect way to explain the TaeSica thing. Even when I try to picture WGTG Taeyeon and Sica together, my mind warps it into some goofy train wreck. Their friendship is adorbs. I enjoy your verbal vomit, bb! Don't apologize!!

Wow. A parallel to behavioural finance. :O Great analogy. That's how I felt about their co-dependency.

Too good to be true? WHY SO NERVOUS, BB? *as I twiddle evil fingers*

Hehehehe it was fun reading you spazz. I thoroughly enjoyed it. You're such an asset to the commenter crew. ♥

I freaking love this update, Yoonsic FTW.. hopefully no more pulverising this ship please. Yoontae interaction was sweet, still not liking Yuri's character much, she seems so comfortable relying on Yoona. Hmm.. Tiffany next, I wonder what Taeny's plans are, next chapter should give some insight. Thanks for another amazing, spazz-worthy update. BTW, my GF says 'sup', she's still spazzes about your updates, says she only has this to look forward to.. she lost her SSF password for the nth time.

I thought that you'd love this chapter. Seemed like a long time coming, huh? XD (Making things happen to Jessica is SOOOO fun, though.) Remember though--Jessica doesn't know yet. ;)

The Yoontae interaction made me wish I wrote more. They're such starkly different characters, but writing their conversation was so easy. <3 Awwww poor Yuri. I agree on the "relying on Yoona" thing, though.

Spazz-worthy!? Thanks soooo much, bb. I was utterly terrified about posting this chapter. I was a mess. hahaha

'SUP GURLFRAN OF SLE3PIE!!! Soooooo happy to entertain. That's why I'm here! :3 Will I ever get an anon comment from her on the last chapter/epilogue?? :") It's okay if she can't.

The only reason I'm up this early is because of a damn fire drill in our building -_- At least i'm up for this spot

I SURVIVED! Okay, let's do this shit

I swear you could write an office sitcom starring Yoona and Jessica, i'd watch the absolute shit of of it.

Yoona is so presh saving Jessica's ass like that.

"Maybe I'll adopt a cat." FUCKING DO IT

Ah so Hyoyeon's awesomeness is rubbing off on Yuri? That's happens to me, just the other day my friend told me she hangs around with me too much and that my filthy mind is pervading her mind. I worry that she's going to morph into me, and let's face it, the world doesn't need another cat loving-almost alcoholic-bi-curious crazy lady running riot.

Oh gawwwwwd Jessica's lingerie talk. I salute Yoona's ability to NOT ravage Sica there and then....on the desk...in front of everybody....

Heart=shattered @ “Because you’re not my girlfriend.” MY YOONSIC! WHERE HAS IT GONE? *starts flipping tables to try and find it*

Oh Tiffany, i love how disturbingly creepy you are sometimes. WHY DO YOU HAVE TO LEAVE US? *creys*

I would kill for one of those bitchin hugs...or just a hug in general. Fuck im so alone D:

DAT ENDING? HAS THE YOONSIC SHIP BEEN RECOVERED FROM THE DEEP DEPTHS OF THE OCEAN?! FUUUUUUUCK. This makes a very happy crazy cat lady. I don't know whether to be happy that YoonYul isn't going to work. LOVE IS TOO STRESSFUL. CANNOT CONTAIN FEELS.

Well, i'm going to love you and leave you. This gurl has to go paaaaaaarty. Oh the joys of college...

Loved this, love you, seez you laterz

Byyeeeeeeee bb <3

RANDOM FIRE DRILLS!! I remember those!

I celebrated your survival with an interpretive dance. I'll send a recording in the mail.

A Yoonsic office sitcom? Will it consist of Jessica talking dirty and Yoona nearly choking on everything? Yeah, I'd watch that, too.

I really liked writing that saving-Jessica scene. 'Bout time someone helped that poor thing.

""Maybe I'll adopt a cat." FUCKING DO IT"--I snorted!! I heart you. You're so funny.

HOLD ON. I couldn't even fully comprehend your sentences on Hyoyeon because BI-CURIOUS!? BI-CURIOUS!? heheh I support the right sexuality for you, bb. But you're pretty dang gay from where I'm sitting. (You bought boob confetti. Never 5get.)

"Oh gawwwwwd Jessica's lingerie talk. I salute Yoona's ability to NOT ravage Sica there and then....on the desk...in front of everybody...."---Uh huh. Bi-curious, indeed. ;D

Hehe I managed to shatter your vagina-shaped heart? Awwww bb. Don't flip tables. Check under TaeNy-sexed couches.

Tiffany's random creepiness cracks me up. Wonder if Taeyeon knows how Tiffany REALLY found out about her. XD

Aasfijdlfdfdf if I could send you a hug in the mail, I would. :(

première partie
Hey hey hey I'm back! :D I'll hammer this thing out before I get too mopey about the papers that I'm about to get back to do anything useful. Post-spam dessert for you~

To Isengard! business!

1. General stuff--
Ahhhhh this chapter. I feel like I've been waiting for it forever. ter ever since that last one at Yoona's house! The suspense regarding what happened to YoonSic over the mysterious two-week time skip was killing me. And Yoona's choice was so, so nervous-making...You had me on the edge of my seat right up to the last sentence. (Y)

2. YoonYul--
You probably know by now that I have rather strong opinions regarding this pairing. >< I might be a bit biased on this matter because of my predilection for YoonSic (for which this fic is largely responsible, btw), but I don't think I would've supported them getting back together so quickly even if YoonSic wasn't the alternative.

(a) From the snippets of backstory you revealed about this couple in Chapter 16, I can sort of see how YoonYul might have been compatible in the beginning. Both young, both inexperienced--they were pretty much at the same place relationship-wise. But by the time of the events of WGTG, they're miles apart. This was reflected in the tension over marriage early on.

However, due to the imbalance in the dynamics of their relationship, they grew at different rates (I sound like I'm talking about bacteria lol). Yoona matured too fast because of all the responsibilities that she piled on herself, while Yuri's growth was stunted because of Yoona's coddling. Hence, by the time the events of WGTG began, they were at very different points in their life. Their priorities and understanding of what a their relationship meant were so different that they were no longer compatible. Then tension between them over marriage, which contributed to Yuri's cheating fiasco, was a manifestation of this.

(b) Furthermore, the imbalance in their relationship also prevented them from becoming the best versions of themselves.

The pressure of having take care of herself and Yuri almost turned Yoona into an uptight, humourless office automaton. Her mischievous/quirky side (which definitely exists, as seen in the last chapter), was shoved aside to make way for laser focus. Terribly uninteresting, and probably not just a little grating. No wonder Hyoyeon didn't like her in the beginning.

On the other hand, because Yoona was around to handle all the adult responsibilities for Yuri, Yuri turned into this--I'll be blunt--bumbling woman-child. And, really, that's just...nope.

(c) Inertia, I think, is the reason that they stayed together for so long (and almost got back together in this chapter), despite how incompatible they were becoming.

Yoona's already poured so much time and energy that anything else other than that familiar relationship with Yuri was unthinkable--because that would mean that all that effor was wasted. Somewhere along the line, I think, she lost sight of what love was. That's the impression that I got from the last section of this chapter, anyway.

Yuri...She throws love around so lightly that I'm not sure she knows what the word means. The status quo of dependency was so comfy that I don't think she's ever found the occasion to really reflect on her feelings for Yoona.

So those are the things I found problematic about YoonYul. Even if they were to get back together again eventually, I think they'd need a long while apart to find themselves and figure how to fix those issues. And if they'd gotten back together hastily without dealing with those issues properly...well, then I think it's just a matter of time before they slip back into comfortable old habits and undo chapters-worth of development. I'm glad that didn't happen. I hope you're safe in that bunker of yours. ;D

Noooooooo! Yoonyul is destined to be together! Yuri's guiltiness almost makes me cry and I can't stand Jessica in this fic and she doesn't deserve the pure Yoona ugh... Yoonyul feels. :(

No but really I sorta feel like crying because of the end of this chapter. All those chapters of wishing they'd get back together and was excited that they were talking again.

I lol'd at "pure Yoona." Don't let the sweet act fool you--she probably has bodies piled up in her basement. hehehhe kidding.

Sorry, bb. Key looks extra cute (per usual) in your userpic, though! :3

Yeah, I like being domestic, too. However, their problems went beyond that, imo. NO MATTER, THO. Everyone has their preferences!! ^^

GABE'S CUT FROM THE FINEST OF BOYFRIEND CLOTH. So, no. Sooyoungie's straight. In this fic, at least. ;)

Whoaaaaaa there. So I thought...

I thought... I THOUGHT...

What breaks my heart is that Jessica seems to be taking everything away from Yuri. First Seo, then... Yoona :c

Half of myself didn't think it was right for Yuri to have Yoona back so easily since Yoona's been giving all of this time without receiving much back. The other half hoped that they'd go back together again, only, Yuri just needed to recompose a bit before that (I can see some little but maybe not what I was looking for changes here under the influence of living with Hyoyeon and her job).

But... what is this that you've... given us?

Omgggg. There are so many feels here that idek how to interpret it.

That "taking everything from Yuri" comment breaks my heart. I only partially agree, though. Cheating on Yoona kinda threw her to Sica. (Yoona called her~~lalala) Same with telling Seohyun about the engagement. Sica's a sexy scavenger. XD

Thankssss for the comment, bb~~~

Jessica love her so much and she's suffering a lot, she's the only one she wants
And Yoona can't forgive Yuri, she cheated, comon

Hehehehe Hello, Anon.

Your happiness makes me happy. Jessica HAS suffered a lot, hasn't she? We all want the best for her. :D

That last sentence made me lol. It's interesting how different people interpret the repercussions of cheating.

Hope you like the ending, love. Thankssssssss for reading~~

Finally caught up!

I would choose Jessica over Yuri, too, if I were Yoona. Nothing irks me more than infidelity. And nope, I don't even feel bad for Yuri.

Such unexpected endings, this chapter and the previous one. Very nice!

I remember saying that if yoona ends up with yuri, I will have to find a way to throw a potato sack over you and beat you up. I was so close to doing that already when I saw "arm-dislocating sex", hahahaha!!! and then BOOM! she's crazy about jessica. LOL. oooh, how is yoona still on speaking terms with yuri? I thought she was so hurt by yuri? with the proposal and the cheating... and AH HA! I did mention maybe yoona was still with yuri, even though she had the hots for Jessica, because she had invested too much time and money in yuri, it's hard to let it all go. and.. and.. and.. “I think I’m in love with her.” --> this pretty much tells me I won't need to use the gunny sack, unless your epilogue has some major extreme head/brain exploding twist. xD

next up, TIFFANY! I CANT WAIT! please don't give me a heart attack, I'm rooting for Taeny couple to survive in this fic, jebal...

I can just picture you preparing your potato sacking mission while you read. Omg did the arm-dislocating sex stop you in your tracks? Super effective! Yoona's cray cray over Jessica~~

YEAH YEAH. YOU'RE A SMART COOKIE, OKAY!? It was very hard to keep the spoilers to myself when you were speaking the truth chapters ago. GOOD JOB. :D

*peeks out*

Do you remember me?! :P I'm still a live and here and reading your fic! I'm just lurking even more now. I'm sorry! T^T

Finally we get more understanding about everyone and their relationships and issues. This makes the character development even better! I still wonder how you even keep track and tie everything in between the nine characters. lol I need to learn this skill!

Also, I request YoonSic! Sexy Time Scene for this fic! It can be a side piece or an extra for this fic and it has to be Sexy!Lingerie! Jessica! Cuz, after her mention of those two outfits I got curious and then my brain nearly exploded. I like their interactions too it's cute and playful and enjoyable. I want to see more YoonSic scenes~
checkinyourbra: jessica01checkinyourbra on October 5th, 2013 11:35 pm (UTC)
What a pleasant surprise!!! :DDDD *boogies*

Of course I remember you, gurrrrlll. Hehe I don't mind the lurking. As long as I know you're out and about in fic world. ♥

I hope the character development's to your liking, bb. :3 Ahhhhhh Idkkkk haha. I keep a lot of google docs and my amazing brain to keep up with girls. Whenever I spot a glaring inconsistency, red lights go off in my apartment. It's scary. D:

Hmmm. You know, I've been thinking about the "extra" chapter thing. I'm still 50/50 about it. Sexy!Lingerie!Jessica is mighty tempting.... YESSS to near brain explosions. ;D Hehehe I love writing their interactions, too. Wish I could have added more, tbh. Of course, that wouldn't involve making Jessica's life so dang difficult and you can clearly see how I love to do that. Makes the good things seem extra worth it. :3

I had hoped that she would choose no one because I won't accept that she would choose Jessica over Yuri <-- BIGGEST BITCH. I have prepared for this but still I can't accept it.

So, I stopped reading and scrolled down
My feeling.. is hurting. I refused (to avoid) reading past the part when Yuri left because it's fishy as hell. I feel like yelling at her again for being fishy around Sooyoung's new assistance or something. I trusted Yoona's instinct.

Why do I even care who she chose? I shipped neither! Oh and I can't even started on stupid Yuri,

I kind of hate you right now.

I don't even know the reason but Yoona. Have a nice life.
